Bison Gloves, Socks, Hats
Gloves made from Bison fiber? Of course!
The fiber is taken from the undercoat of American bison and spun into a yarn, creating a soft and highly-insulating glove for your hand. The fiber keeps the buffalo warm all winter in Yellowstone National Park and it will keep the cold and wet away from your hands just as well.
When people feel these gloves in my store, the first thing they comment on is the softness. It is what is called a solid-protein hair, unlike something such as deer with is hollow-hair and has a tendency to break (which you've noticed if you have a deer-skin rug).
The down does not have the barbs and hooks found in other natural fibers such as wool, which is why there is no woolen itch.
The reason the hair is so insulating is that it contains many tiny ups, downs and bends in the shaft. Those irregularities, when overlaid on lots of other bison down, create a huge number of pockets that trap body heat. That's why you get the wonderful insulating properties of this fiber.
The other advantage of this fiber is that it has exceptional wicking properties. The fibers absorb moisture, keeping it away from your skin. I've gotten these gloves wet and, while they feel heavier, there isn't the soggy, sticky feeling that you get with cotton.
If you are visiting Yellowstone National Park and mingling with the wild buffalo, you'll feel right at home wearing these gloves, hats and socks.
