Buffalo Hides

Baby loves buffalo hide

NEW: Buffalo Hides for Romance, A Primer.

Imagine laying a buffalo hide in front of your fireplace, or near some candles, and the orange glow of the flames shimmers off the brown, red and orange tones of this great American product. It's probably the ultimate way to enjoy a cozy day at home.

The buffalo is a tough, rugged animal, and this hide will last a lifetime, but the hair is incredibly soft. As a natural bed cover, it can't be beat because of how it "breathes" as opposed to synthetic coverings.

I've taken great care in selecting these hides, which included going to a processing plant and examining each one before I decided whether to send it to the tanner. The hair is thick and full, the colors are surprising gorgeous, and this will become a beloved part of your home.

Unfortunately I can't quote them, but I think my happiest customers have been little babies and pets. They take to these rugs like nothing I've ever seen. Instinct? I'm not sure, but they love crawling on these durable rugs.

Please take a look at each one of the pictures and don't hesitate to call (406-646-6717) or email me (david@yellowstonetraders.com) if you need additional information on how it will fit into your home or cabin.

Some general facts about these buffalo:

*) all were raised domestically for food and were not part of an endangered group, such as my neighbors that you'll see at Yellowstone National Park.

*) from a distance all buffalo look brown. But really, they can have tones ranging from gold to almost black. What I look for are interesting color changes, such as dark sides with a gold center, or patterns. A consistent red hue can also be quite attractive, but those are rare.

*) the leather on these is very thin and flexible. This lets you drape the hide over a sofa, or put it on your bed. I spend the Montana winters, which in West Yellowstone can get down to -40, snuggled under one of these.

*) these become a conversation piece as people explore the hide and find features they didn't expect.
